Collapse ▲In many cases, a three-week difference in planting will translate into a one-week difference in maturity in the fall. Of course this can vary from year-to-year, but peanuts planted in late May often emerge more quickly and have a greater period of time during the cropping cycle where more heat units are accumulated (compared with early May plantings.) Late April and early May plantings of peanuts can take 21 days to make a stand. Also, optimum maturity of Bailey II, Emery and Sullivan occurs at about the same time (when these varieties are planted on the same date and experience the same growing conditions.) These two factors create a narrow window for harvesting in the fall.
