When fields in many areas of the state dry next week, there will likely be some challenges with weed control. For example, I needed to spray a few fields Wednesday and was rained out, and then excessive rains occurred Thursday and part of Friday. Even if you are in the window of time for paraquat sprays, the weeds may quickly get larger than 8 or 11 oz/acre of paraquat can control. It will be more effective to switch to Cobra, Ultra Blazer, Storm or Cadre. 2,4-DB is a good component in the mix as is Basagran. And, annual grasses may also be present. Look close at the weed complex and apply herbicides alone or in mixture. The residual herbicides Anthem Flex, Dual Magnum, Zidua, Outlook and Warrant can be applied with the contact herbicides. Acephate for thrips control is generally compatible with most herbicide mixtures.

I am getting questions about mixing 4 or 5 components in a tank. Many times there is no major issue with these mixes but we have not looked at all of the possible combinations. We do need to increase the clethodim rate if we apply this herbicides for grasses in combination with our broadleaf/sedge herbicides. Look close at adjuvant recommendations and make sure you have the correct product in the tank at the correct rate.
