The Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) is a program designed to meet the K-12 grade NC Standards for Healthy Living and support the standards in English, Math and Science. EFNEP engages youth in learning through hands on activities and skills that help youth make heathy decisions. Our program has over 50 years of proven success!

Ms. Carol Pitts, Nutrition Program Assistant, EFNEP/4-H & Youth is teaching students at Iotla Valley Elementary School and East Franklin Elementary School all about Youth EFNEP this fall. Ms. Pitts teaches Youth EFNEP every Tuesday at Iotla Elementary and every Thursday at East Franklin Elementary. She will teach the students all about health and nutrition through the month of November.

Youth participants enrolled in EFNEP have fun learning about MyPlate and the five food groups, good food safety practices and physical activity. They also receive skill builders which include take home work books, water bottles, jump ropes, pencils, bookmarks, cinch backpacks and insulated lunch bags.

Due to Covid we are having our programs with the kids in the gym all at least 6 feet apart, at this time we are not getting to do food samples however we are doing a lot of trivia games and physical activities as they learn all of these important skills.

At EFNEP we believe in our common mission to help youth choose a healthy lifestyle and improve their overall quality of life. By partnering with the Physical Education Teachers, classroom teachers and schools we can achieve this goal together!
