GAP Connections Card Scanning Policy

Beginning in January 2018, GAPC will be instituting a new policy for scanning the GAP ID Card at annual training.

The following steps will be taken at annual training:

  1. GAP Connections Staff will verify the name and/or birthdate of the grower with a valid form of identification (i.e. Driver’s License or federal or state issued ID).
  2. GAP ID Cards will be collected and held until the completion of the training.
  3. Growers may only have one (1) Grower ID card scanned (1 Grower = 1 Card = 1 Scan). Growers may not have the cards of family members or landlords scanned.
  4. Growers must be in attendance for the entire GAP training for their training to be recorded. Late arrivals will be per the judgement of GAPC Staff.
  5. GAP Connections will not add training after the event without verifying attendance with the training site host.

 Private Applicator Meetings

Private pesticide applicators, whose licenses will expire on September 30, 2018, are urged to attend ONE of the following sessions in order to satisfy license certification requirements for the next three years. The location of these meetings will be the Martin County Farmers Market in Williamston, NC. Please note that these will likely be the last private applicator pesticide recertification classes offered in Martin County for 2018. The dates for these meetings are:

January 30th – 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.    OR     February 1st – 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Auxin Training

You are undoubtedly aware of the issues with dicamba off-target deposition across the country last year. Because of those issues, the EPA recently revised labels for dicamba products registered for application to Xtend soybean and XtendFlex cotton. One of many new requirements is mandatory training for all applicators prior to use in 2018 (even if trained in 2017). The Federal labels for 2,4-D products registered for Enlist crops (Enlist One, Enlist Duo) do not have a training requirement. However, NC 24(c) SLN labels for Enlist One and Enlist Duo will specify mandatory training. I encourage all growers and applicators to attend the Auxin Training. The auxin training will be held at the Martin County Farmers Market February 6, 2018 at 9 a.m.

 Respirator Fit Testing/Medical Clearance

We will be hosting at Respirator Fit Testing and Medical Clearance at the Martin County Farmers Market on February 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on February 15 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. To help with the waiting time and make things go easier this year, please call the Extension office at 789-4370 to make an appointment. If you need a questionnaire form to complete for medical clearance, you can pick up one at the office or any of the upcoming production meetings. Please contact me with any questions or concerns.
